Description
Up for auction at no reserve is a JBL - Metregon ERA speaker. This is from an estate of a local doctor who’s was an audiophile. The speakers were purchased in 1959. The speakers work fine and the cabinet is in very good condition. It appears that the speaker cabinet was custom made by a local cabinet maker to the Metregon specs and not by JBL. I can assure you that this is a very well built and is extremely heavy. It has the correct components for a Metregon model No. 205 JBL loudspeaker.I have be told that JBL freely gave away plans for the cabinets to be built by the public. I have also been told that it would be very expensive to duplicate this design today. One thing that I noticed is that the doctor at some point relocated the tweeters to the side of the cabinet for his person preference. The tweeters original location inside the speaker now have a piece of wood covering the holes, it can easily be reversed ( see the photo). The holes for the tweeter boxes on the exterior of the case can be filled in. I will be happen to have it repaired locally by a professional at no charge to buyer. I will also include a file that is full of brochures, manuals and literature on the Metregon , including a letter from a JBL tech dated July 1959. Please feel free to ask any questions that I may have of not answered. If your an international bidder you must pay via Paypal. Buyer to pay actual packing and freight charges. Components. No 205 loudspeaker system Two 130A JBL speakers (can’t read the serial numbers) Two 275 Drivers for the horns (serial #532) Two N600 Crossovers Two H5040 Horns. Cabinet measurements: 78”w x 35”h x 25”d. ; This is from another ebay member that lives in St.louis. ( Thank you for your response. I'm a collector of vintage JBL speakers and I was curious to see the workmanship up close. Since I already own two of these systems, I likely will not place a bid on it. $2200 would be on the high end for the components if sold separately. You do have some components in that system that are hard to find. The N600 crossovers and the 275 HF drivers are quite rare. If you were to build this system today to exact factory specs with the componetns you have installed, you could be looking at $15K to $20K. I've talked with cabinet makers and they've told me that this system is extremely difficult to build because the final product is all one-piece.) border="0" alt="Photobucket">
